Video editing in <span>Kubuntu</span> can be done with an application called
<span class="application">Kino</span> &#8212; a non-linear video editor.
<span class="application">Kino</span> is not installed by default. It can be
installed using <span class="application">Muon</span> by going to <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenu">Kickoff Application Launcher</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guisubmenu">Computer</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenuitem">Muon Software Center</span></span>.
</p><p>Here's how to open and edit video files in 
<span class="application">Kino</span>:

<span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenu">Kickoff Application Launcher</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guisubmenu">Applications</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guisubmenu">Multimedia</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenuitem">Kino</span></span></p></li><li class="step"><p>Open the video file to be edited by clicking
<span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenu">File</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guisubmenu">Open</span></span>.
(Press <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">OK</span></span> if a message appears to import file.). It may
take some time to import, depending on the size of the file.</p></li><li class="step"><p>After the importing is done, the video can be played. Also, it
can be trimmed, visual effects added, etc.</p></li></ol></div><p>To trim a video to shorten it or to export different sections:</p><div class="procedure"><a name="idp4649096"></a><p class="title"><b>Procedure 4. Trimming Videos</b></p><ol class="procedure" type="1"><li class="step"><p>Once a video file has been imported into 
<span class="application">Kino</span>, click on the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Trim</span></span>
button.</p></li><li class="step"><p>A slider below the video preview can be used to specify the 
starting (In Point) and the ending (Out Point) points of the trimmed video.
</p></li><li class="step"><p>Specify the starting and ending points by dragging each end of the
slider.</p></li><li class="step"><p>After the sliders have been positioned, press the
<span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Apply</span></span> button at the bottom. This will trim the file to
the 'In Point' and 'Out Point' specified in the previous step.</p></li></ol></div><div class="procedure"><a name="idp4652544"></a><p class="title"><b>Procedure 5. Exporting videos</b></p><ol class="procedure" type="1"><li class="step"><p>When the editing, trimming, etc., are complete, the video is ready
to be exported. To do this, click on the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Export</span></span> button 
on the right side of the window or go to <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenu">View</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guisubmenu">Export</span></span>.</p></li><li class="step"><p>In the Export mode, the output mode can be specified for saving the
edited video. Exporting to a '<acronym class="acronym">DV</acronym>' file maintains the quality 
of the video (this generally results in a large file).</p></li><li class="step"><p>To export the video to a common format such as
<acronym class="acronym">AVI</acronym>, select the 'Other' tab and specify the type of video to
export, the quality of the output video and the location the video should be 
saved to.</p></li><li class="step"><p>When the settings have been customized, click on the
<span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Export</span></span> button to export the file. This may take some 
time depending on the size of file, the format, the quality selected, and other
