There are three types of Virtual Private Networks (<acronym class="acronym">VPN</acronym>) 
which are currently supported by <span class="application">NetworkManager</span>. It 
is important to know the type of <acronym class="acronym">VPN</acronym> network in order to
connect to it.

Begin by installing <a class="ulink" href="apt:network-manager-openvpn" target="_top">network-manager-openvpn</a>, <a class="ulink" href="apt:network-manager-pptp" target="_top">network-manager-pptp</a>, or <a class="ulink" href="apt:network-manager-vpnc" target="_top">network-manager-vpnc</a>, depending on the
type of <acronym class="acronym">VPN</acronym> network.

<span class="mousebutton">Click</span> the <span class="guiicon">NetworkManager</span> in the
System Tray area and select <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenuitem">Manage Connections...</span></span>
