With <acronym class="acronym">DHCP</acronym>, settings are automatically configured by the
router. Wired network connections are selected as default when they are
connected and available.

Most routers use <acronym class="acronym">DHCP</acronym> to allocate <acronym class="acronym">IP</acronym>
addresses. To connect:

Click the <span class="application">NetworkManager</span> icon in the System Tray.

Under <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guilabel">Wired Network</span></span>, select the name of the network to
make a connection.

Instead of <acronym class="acronym">DHCP</acronym>, a static connection can be configured.

<span class="mousebutton">Click</span> the <span class="guiicon">NetworkManager</span> in the
System Tray area and select <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenuitem">Manage Connections...</span></span>.

Click the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guilabel">Wired</span></span> tab.

Select the desired connection if it is available and 
<span class="mousebutton">click</span> the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Edit...</span></span> button. If 
the proper connection is not available, <span class="mousebutton">click</span> the 
<span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Add...</span></span> button.

Choose <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guilabel">Manual</span></span> option in the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guilabel">Configure</span></span>
drop down under the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guilabel">IP Address</span></span> tab.

Enter the details and <span class="mousebutton">click</span> the 
<span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">OK</span></span> button.

<span class="mousebutton">Click</span> the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">OK</span></span> in the main 
window.
