Creator</span>. This application is for the creation of a bootable
<acronym class="acronym">USB</acronym> flash drive to install <span>Kubuntu</span>, <span>Ubuntu</span>, or other 
<span class="trademark">Linux</span>&#8482; distributions.

Open <span class="application">Startup Disk Creator</span> by going to
<span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenu">Kickoff Application Launcher</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guisubmenu">Applications</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guisubmenu">System</span></span> &#8594; <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guimenuitem">Startup Disk Creator</span></span>.

<span class="mousebutton">Click</span> the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Other...</span></span> button to
open the dialog to select the proper <acronym class="acronym">ISO</acronym> image,
<span class="mousebutton">click</span> the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">OK</span></span>
button to close the <acronym class="acronym">ISO</acronym> selection dialog.

If the <acronym class="acronym">USB</acronym> flash drive doesn't show any <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guilabel">Free
Space</span></span>, highlight the device and <span class="mousebutton">Click</span> the
<span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Format</span></span> button.

If, after formatting, the device is still not showing any <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guilabel">Free
Space</span></span>, it may be necessary to close <span class="application">Startup Disk 
Creator</span> and then physically remove the device. Then wait a few 
seconds and insert it back into the computer. Open <span class="application">Startup Disk 
Creator</span> and continue with the following steps:

There are two options for making the startup disk. Select <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Stored in
reserved extra space</span></span> if the <acronym class="acronym">USB</acronym> flash drive will
be used to run the <span>Kubuntu</span> desktop live. Use the slider to select the amount
of storage space. The other option, <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Discarded on shutdown, unless you
save them elsewhere</span></span>, will not store data on the device. Use this
selection if the <acronym class="acronym">USB</acronym> flash drive is only for installing the
<span>Kubuntu</span> desktop.

To start the process, <span class="mousebutton">click</span> the <span xmlns:doc="http://nwalsh.com/xsl/documentation/1.0" class="guiitem"><span class="guibutton">Make
Startup Disk</span></span> button.
