<p>تتبع المعرفة الفلكية المصرية المتأخرة الحضارة الإغريقية الرومانية. ولم يوجد التنجيم أي الاعتقاد بوجود تأثير للنجوم على حياة وأقدار الناس إلا بعد الفترة البطليموسية. ويحوي معبد هاذور في الدنديره الذي يعود تاريخه إلى عهد بطليموس، ربما القرن الأول بعد الميلاد على رسم رائع للسماء يوضح هذا الأمر.</p>
<p>وعلى أي حال فقد وجد اختلاف في التسميات. مثلاً، السرطان كان يمثله خنفساء الجعل. وشكل الأسد بالقرب من الميزان(ليس برج الأسد) هو كوكبة قنطورس [1].</p>
<p>أما الكوكبات الأقدم فتثير إشكالات أكثر، ولكن يوجد بعض المؤشرات أن البروج التي يستخدمها المنجمون لها أصل قديم في الحقيقة [2], مع أن البروج قد تغيرت بشكل كبير عبر العصور [3].</p>
